Our 2nd Annual Sports Medicine Seminar will be Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 8:00 am to 12:15 pm. The seminar is open to all Athletic Trainers, Coaches and Medical Professionals with a sports interest and 4.0 CEUs are available. Dr. Gross and his daughter Sabrina, an operating room nurse, spent the month of August '10 in Tanzania East Africa on a volunteer mission at the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Center with Health Volunteers Oversees.
" The problems that we saw were almost exclusively trauma related. The orthopedic ward was constructed for 60 patients but typically had 90 at any given time (truly an overwhelming experience). The tail end of our trip was concluded with the Safari across the Serengeti Plains and a visit to the Ngorangoro crater and the island of Zanzibar. Many have asked us, "did you have fun." We respond: "it was more like a mountain climbing adventure, something difficult and fraught with problems and the possibility of failure, but gave us an exhilarating feeling and a different view of life having done it, " said Dr. Gross.
